Just say NO to CHEESY | Back to School Minis!

You guys. I fully admit, as a mom, I sometimes have a hard time taking off my "mommy goggles". You know, the ones that allow you to see past all sorts of awful in a picture and make you only see the cute little face smiling back at you? I'm just as guilty as you are. So much so that, despite the fact that my child's 'Kindergarten picture' was sooooooo disgustingly awful last year, I still bought it. I know. Yikes. I did it mostly for reference and comparison to my own work, but I still paid money for something I should not have. It is seriously one of the worst photos of my child. Ever. I'm here to tell you, it can be better! I know we are all about pictures at my house and I'm sure you are too. But wouldn't you rather have a beautiful, professional image hanging in your hallway or displayed proudly in your child's grandparent's home? Good new folks! I'm offering back to school mini sessions! And for nearly the same price as those awful, cheesy and impersonal photos, you can have images of your child that actually capture your child's personality in a beautiful, outdoor setting. These are limited in availability. So hurry! Email me today to book your spot! And when you get the info from your local school advertising "picture day", just say no to that CHEESE! I promise you will not regret it!

Luke & Crystal | Photos For Fighters

Meet Luke....and his lovely wife Crystal. Luke's story began several years ago. In January of 2010, on a day like many others, Luke flew out of town for a one day business trip. Only the business meeting was cut short, and instead he spent three days at the hospital there after having two grand mal seizures. At just 34 years old, he was diagnosed with a brain tumor. After four and a half years, Luke is still fighting, with his wife Crystal by his side.

"Somehow, I found ShutterView Photography and the "Photos for Fighters & Survivors" project at exactly the right time. We had put off having professional photos done for years. Always talking about having it done, but never quite getting around to it. I found Nicole just days before our 13th wedding anniversary, and just days before Luke was scheduled to have a second brain surgery. It was like it was it was meant to be.
Nicole quickly put us at ease in front of the camera, and created images where our personalities actually came through. She is amazing. A true God send. I will treasure these photos forever."

What a joy it was for me to be able to capture their love for each other! If you know anyone who can benefit from my Photos for Fighters Project, PLEASE send them my way! I'd love to pass this gift along to as many as possible.

Photos for Fighters Project | Texas Photographer

This past year, I lost one of the most important and influential people in my life. One of my absolute best friends. My dad. He battled hard for 8 long months against a rare and complicated form of Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. It was my dad's second battle with this cancer. The first one, began when I was just a senior in high school, 9 years earlier. He'd been given the all clear and went into remission after 12 grueling rounds of radiation. We thought we'd never have to face a battle like this again...that the worst was behind us. We thought we had all the time in the world left to be together.

Then, on January 1, 2013, my dad was back in his Oncologists office, hearing the news that we all had feared. He had been sick since the week prior. Not just cold-like sick, sick like something was really wrong sick. We all had that feeling. You know, the one you get in the pit of your stomach that just makes you ill because you know it's going to be bad feeling. Tests had confirmed his cancer was back and more aggressive than ever before. It was resistant to treatment and spread more rapidly than the doctors hoped.  They simply could not get a grip on it. Chemo therapy and so many other treatments were tried. He was in and out of the hospital and there were endless doctor visits. In the end there was nothing the doctors could do. The cancer spread to his brain and he was relieved of his fight and all the pain and suffering just 2 days after being put into hospice. He passed away in my parents home, surrounded by our family in the early morning hours of August 25, 2013. My dad remained positive and fought hard clear until the very end. He was such a light in this world. Such a fabulous and giving man, with a heart of gold, who would do anything for anyone. He had an incredible zest for life... an endless sense of humor. He was a devoted and loving husband, dad and grandpa, and a wonderful friend to all he met. He is my hero. He is my inspiration behind this project.

Photography has been a huge blessing to my family. The opportunities I've had to capture moments in the lives of those I love...countless images I have of my family doing the little things....I'll cherish forever. I want those who are currently fighting cancer and those who have fought their battle and won, to have images they can cherish. Images their families can cherish...For free.

I know all to well the financial burden placed on a family when a member is diagnosed with cancer. Even with good insurance, medications and deductibles add up very quickly. At a time of such an emotional and financial burden, hiring a photographer to photograph your family is probably one of the furthest things down on your budget. And it's a time like this, when there may not be another chance, that a photographer is needed most.

It is with that, that I am launching a new project. Photos for Fighters. I am offering all fighters, those currently fighting and those who have beat the odds and won their fight, a complimentary photo session, complete with high-res images for you to share with your friends and family. If you would like to participate in this project, please email me. I am currently accepting sessions and would love to work with you.

Snack Party | Frisco Lifestyle Photographer

The weather here has been...well....interesting. Highs near 90, and then days later barely 40 with freezing rain. It's crazy. Certainly not the Dallas Spring time weather I've become accustomed living here these last 5 years. The other day, it was gorgeous out. Probably low-mid 80s. My boys were having a blast out in their backyard playhouse. I heard their contagious giggles clear inside. Camera in hand, I invaded their little snack time party. Moments like these I know will be gone all too quickly.

My Boys

These sweet little boys belong to me. They recently agreed to "shave" their faux hawks off to support their grandpa, my dad, in his second fight with non hodgkin's lymphoma. My dad recently lost his hair due to chemo treatments and my boys and my two brothers did the same. Family is an amazing thing. And I'm incredibly thankful for mine.

Jenifer & Travis| She said YES!

Just wanted to share a different kind of session compared to what I'm used to shooting from this past October.

My husband Ben and I have known Travis and Jenifer for a few years now. Travis is a photographer also, and we first met him when he came to a workshop my husband was teaching. They are super awesome! They are seriously the nicest people and a blast to be around. So when Travis asked us to be in on a surprise marriage proposal, I literally jumped at the chance! I'm such a sucker for love. Seriously. I LOVE love! Travis wanted his proposal documented, but in order to fool Jenifer, he needed it to look like we were just playing around. Luckily, I'd pretty much set Travis up with the perfect excuse, as I'd been wanting to do an after dark session for a while, so it was perfect!

We headed to dinner and had plans to take pictures of each other afterwards. Little did Jenifer know Travis has a whole other game plan. Needless to say, it was awesome. They are so perfect for each other! It was such a great night! I'm even more excited to get to shoot their wedding at a gorgeous resort in Cancun this summer!

Becky & Sean | Frisco Photographer

Oh how I totally adore this couple! They are so fabulous and were so much fun to photograph! When our first session location turned out to be a dud, we quickly drove to a back up location and managed to have some fun before we lost the gorgeous evening light. Can you believe they will be married 5 years in just a few months? Me either...they totally still look at each other with that newlywed glow :)
