I met my gorgeous friend Teresa and her husband shortly after we moved here to TX. They were actually the very first session I ever did! I've been lucky enough to photograph them on a few occasions. Sweet little Boston and I spent time together last year after he turned two.

Boston turned 3 a couple months ago. Teresa had wanted to get together and do some pictures, but her sweet new miracle baby, Carter, was in NICU and he would need some pictures done too. Carter was born super early, like at 24 or 25 weeks. But he is a fighter! He and my own little nugget Logan are just a couple weeks apart! Carter is truly a miracle and such a doll!! We decided a laid back session would be perfect. We both loved how it turned out. It's actually my most favorite session to date. So real. So imperfectly perfect. So them. Thanks for letting me share the morning with you guys Teresa!

Welcome to 2011 (I'm only a month late!!!). I'm super excited for what this year has in store for me both personally and professionally. I've been working like crazy behind the scenes for several months now (like 7!) on new ideas, details, a little bit of a blog face lift and of course a new WEBSITE Go ahead, check it out!

This April, we'll be celebrating our 2nd birthday! It's been a crazy 2 years! I've learned so much, pushed myself creatively on many levels and have invested greatly in my business. This past summer I began thinking about a relaunch. It needed to be done. But I've got to be honest, I was extremely hesitant to even get started. Why? Because I've built up a rather large clientele and I was (still am) a little nervous that I may lose some/several/all of my fabulous clients (especially my wonderful repeat clients) because of my decision to restructure.

With my decision came a lot and lot of thought. The biggest weighing factors were my time (away from my family, especially) and the actual overhead cost of running a business. Let me break it down into a little bit of further explanation.

My time. What a client sees is only a tiny tiny portion of how much time one single session actually takes. 1-2 hours behind the camera is just the beginning. Sorting, editing and organizing photos from a single session takes hours and hours on end, especially since I hand-edit each and every final image. Many other photographers out there process their images with "actions". In other words, they buy/download a process that someone else has created for photoshop or lightroom, that usually sharpens, adjusts contrast, saturates colors etc. and they run every image from a session through these "actions" and like magic, their done. While this may cut down dramatically on the time it takes to edit images, I simply want to provide my clients with the best product I can. Actions just cannot do that for me. Many people also forget that I put in time to find locations, research/work on keeping up with new trends in photography and learn new techniques that help me produce a high quality finished product.

My time has become even more important with the addition of another child. While I love photography and the opportunity to provide others with professional pictures, I also love love love my husband and my children. Children grow up so fast and every single minute of it is, well, priceless actually. However, in order to still be able to pursue something I truly enjoy, a sacrifice has to be made on my part, but I simply cannot justify losing our on those precious moments for what has ended up being pennies on the dollar.

The other huge reason for the change? Business costs. Plain and simple. It takes money to make money, that's for sure. This past year we have invested in some amazing new gear, including the much sought after Canon 5D MkII and another new "L" lens. We also upgraded to Photoshop CS5. Add that on top of props, gas to and from shoots, new studio lights and equipment, studio up keep, marketing materials, computers, backup hard-drives.... well, you get the idea.

The biggest change to my business is probably what my sessions include. I know that many of my previous clients are going to wonder why I've decided to charge for high-res images, instead of just including them in the session fee, as I've always done. To be honest, it's because I know my clients don't need them. An amazing amount of people don't even bother to print their images. They simply stick their disc in a drawer or on a shelf and forget about it. My advice to you is pick the pictures you love. Order Prints. Frame them. Enjoy them. No longer do I want to enable my clients to simply "store" their sessions on a disc. While that may seem a little scary to some of you, I promise, it's actually better this way. But of course, if you really insist on "having" your images on disc, a purchase option will always be there. Don't worry though, I'm here for you to discuss options, gallery design, etc.. I'll even come to your home and help you asses your space to make sure you get exactly what you want and make the most of your investment. Proof CDs are available for purchase as well. The images proof CDs are watermarked and sized perfectly for sharing via facebook/email/blogging etc.

My ultimate goal hasn't changed as I still wish to provide you with professional images you'll be proud to display in your home. I hope that you, my wonderful clients, understand that in order to continue to provide a high quality product, changes were necessary. If you feel like you need further explanation, here's a wonderful link as to why custom photography costs more. I look forward to all the wonderful sessions that are in store for this year, and, of course, catching up with old clients and meeting new ones!

Now, since I'm re-launching and have changed the structure of my business, I'm offering a special! {THE Shot}

When I first got pregnant with Logan, I immediately started dreaming about all the amazing practice I'd get taking shots of him as a newborn. One shot in particular I just knew I had to have. The hanging baby shot. I've seen these types of shots everywhere, on just about every newborn photographer's website. I've attempted this shot only once before, and it was "mocked" and I turned to photoshop to make it look perfect and create the illusion that it was actually hanging, but it still just didn't quite turn out as I'd hoped.

A few weeks ago, while hosting a newborn shoot with Logan for our meet-up group, I met a fellow photographer who also was dying to attempt the hanging baby shot. We both laughed about how we'd really wanted to try it, but were actually too scared to do it with a clients baby for fear of all that could go wrong with it. So I invited her over to my studio to use Logan as our guinea pig. I know, I'm in the running for mother of the year award here.

It only took us nearly 2 hours to finally get him sleeping well enough to attempt it. With a few minor issues, we finally did it. My poor husband. He was the one holding the branch, since the branch is so uneven and I didn't have anything to evenly balance it on. I think it worked out amazingly. I finally got THE shot I've been dying for. Who knew a mother could get so excited about her newborn hanging from a tree branch? Certainly makes me more excited for the upcoming new years and more clients with wonderful newborns!

hese super adorable little girls belong to a gal I've known for many years. Actually she was one of my youth leaders at church when I was about 12. I hadn't seen her in years, but got lucky when she caught up with me and snagged my last sessions while I was in Denver back in July. We thought for a second that we were going to be rained out, but luckily those CO storms come and go pretty quickly and left us with a gorgeous afternoon. We especially had fun when the girls discovered a water puddle and went to town splashing and jumping in it. I've tried to really narrow it down, but I shot a ton, and there are just too many cute ones... Here's a little peek at our time together. This one is totally a classic! Even when things end up turning out great overall, there is always moments when kids just don't want to do anything more.

Remember this photo from my VERY first newborn shoot ever?

Well, I entered it into an annual photography contest put on by a local magazine here in Frisco, TX. The winning photo gets the cover of the August issue. Cool huh? While I didn't get the cover, I did receive honorable mention for my submission! That's pretty cool to me!

Ok, so I'm SUPER behind in my bloggin'...as in like 10 sessions yet to be blogged about, but I've been on "vacation" for the last month and it isn't over just quite yet :)....so bear with me...

All that aside, I couldn't resist jumping ahead and posting just one of the many pictures I took of my amazing grandparents at a recent family reunion. I'll be incredibly blessed if my hubs and I are half as happy and in love as these two are 52 years after saying "I Do".

Last night I got to get together with another friend of mine and her two girls. Talk about a blast!! We shot in my studio for a few hours and then headed outdoors to do a few at sunset. I shot around 400 pictures, so there are a TON to go through. One of the very first I got immediately jumped out at me and I just had to share it. I love the emotion this picture has. This is my best buddy's sweet little baby. He's the youngest newborn I've had a chance to photograph, just 5 days old. Holly and I had a wonderful time playin' with her new sweet bunddle of joy today. I just had time to preview the pictures I got today, and can't wait to do another session in a few days (let's just say that being my best friend sure has it's perks :D) Only one for now. Enjoy.

Here is an image from a recent session I did a couple weeks ago. This is just an example of why hand editing is so very important. Yes, I hand edit every single image I take. Running an action or two doesn't even come close to how I love my final pictures to turn out. I don't even have a single action on my computer. See for yourself...

My session that afternoon was during a VERY windy evening, so keeping this cutie's hair outta her face to begin with wasn't an option. But it sure is nice to know how to fix an image when things like this happen.

A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to shoot with Maddi. We had big plans to check out Downtown Grapevine and the vintage train station, but the good ol' Texas weather wasn't cooperating. Rather than reschedule, Maddi's aunt had the great idea of moving the shoot to the Gaylord Texan Hotel. Despite all my reservations about shooting indoors where flash would of course be needed, I was excited to shoot somewhere new. The hotel is really cool, with it's beautiful architecture and fun atmosphere and Maddi was a lot of fun. We couldn't do a lot of crazy fun things, being as we were in a hotel, but if this setting was outside somewhere, it would be so amazing to take pictures on.

{Amy & Everette: Round 2}

A few weeks ago, I met Amy and Everette. We had a fun session, but much to our dismay, it was FREEZING outside. So we set up part deux for this past Saturday, with high hopes that the weather would be warm enough for us to spend the session outside. I can't even tell you how happy I was when I woke up and it was a fairly warm day. Score! Even after it clouded up...still great and no rain! Thanks for the fabulous time again, you guys! You rock. I'm super excited for your newborn session in a few weeks!

My favorite shot of the day is this swing one {believe it or not the playground was packed with kids and parents...I just asked ever so nicely if we borrow the swings for a momment and was pretty surprised how fast people moved out of our way!} The sun was in just the right spot. I love it.

Ben {and I, but mainly Ben} started a photography meetup group back in Novemeber and have really enjoyed the turnout so far. Basically, it's a group of local photographers who want to get to know camera settings, studio lighting, and photoshop better {all taught mainly by Ben} and who like to get together with other photographers and swap ideas and tips. We've met some really great photographers, wardrobe stylists and makeup artists because if it.

One of our favorite MUA, Paige, is married to Randy Anderson of Anderson Stuidos in Dallas. Randy is pro. I mean BIG time pro. He owns one of these...and about 5 or 6 of these. Not to mention an array of amazing of lenses. He's certainly made it to the 'big time' league having shot work for Dillards, Nascar, Ford, GM, Neiman Marcus, Oakley to name a few. They have an absolutely amazing home studio in Dallas. 4000 sq ft. of awesome.

This past Saturday, we took Randy up on an invitation to shoot there and held a meet-up featuring 3 models. It was a great success and everyone who came had a fantastic time. It was quite the production...about 12 hours of ~~work~~ play. We certainly had a lot of fun! Thanks Randy and Paige for letting us have a taste of how the real pros do it! We can't wait to do it again in the future.

Needless to say, we have a LOT of shots. Here's one of the few that's been edited.

What a great family!! They are actually a referral of a referral of a referral; ha ha, I guess the good word is starting to get out! They were my last official session of 2009.

What more could I ask for...a great looking, well dressed, super photogenic family to help me say buh-bye to 2009! It was a super chilly day, but they brough out their best smiles and everyone was in a great mood. Thank you guys for helping me break in my new camera and for braving the freezing temps with me; you were all fantastic!

I may be a little biased, but this was by far my favorite newborn session to date. I'm so proud to say that this super precious and tiny guy belongs to my brother and sister in law. He makes nephew #5 for us...still no nieces. Remember Kendra? After I got home from my Colorado visit, my brother called me and asked if I'd be willing and able to come back in just a couple weeks to take their baby's newborn pictures, which of course I was SO happy and excited to do. So they booked me a ticket for the week after Thanksgiving (ya, this post is THAT overdue) right around Kendra's due date; but little Andyn decided to make an early arrive and actually was born just under 2 weeks before I got there. He was only 5lbs. 5oz. at birth, so he was certainly still super tiny when we met for the first time.

I have to admit, I was SUPER nervous about doing this session. Why? Well, because at home, our studio is where I do 99% of my newborn sessions, sometimes stepping outside, but rarely doing in home sessions because lighting can be really tricky. Luckily, Brad and Kendra have HUGE windows and lots of them and in the middle of the day, the light was great!

Now, I had a really hard time picking the photos to post because I took nearly 550 (I didn't edit nearly that many though) but I would definitely say that my family gets some special perks. So without further adieu, here's a peak at Andyn.

So I LOVE story boards for so many reasons; they are just such an awesome way to show off your favorites from a session with us! They are 100% custom, from layout to text, it will truly be your story! The real beauty about the way these are done is that they don't have to be framed. Simply set them on a shelve, easel, or hang them on the wall.

There are tons of options when it comes to ordering and we will surely create a piece you will be proud to display in your home. Here's a look at just a couple of the options we have when it comes to these babies, and let me just add, that I am in no way a "product" photographer! The pictures certainly don't do these justice! Oh, and also, story boards are available in soooo many different sizes, including custom, so the possibilities are really endless!

This one is a 5x10, true black and white photo mounted on 3/4" black foam board. It sits on an easel on our mantel.

You can easliy install wall hardware if you prefer to have it hanging.

Here's my absolute FAVORITE mount we offer!! I could hardly wait to do one for my son's cake smash photos. This one is a 12x18 photo on a 3/8" beveled mount. Mounts done in this style are just gorgeous and really create a dramatic statement and come ready to hang or placed on an easel. Also, this is the style, in a 12x12, that is included in the "Little One's Premium" Package.

This post is way overdue. At the beginning of November, I was able to travel to Colorado to visit my family; and since I was there my sister in law asked if I would take her maternity pictures. And of course I said yes! I love maternity pictures, it's just such an awesome time in a woman's life.

We were able to shoot at a park near my parents house, right before sunset. It was a little chilly, but actually not bad considering that it was November. It actually the perfect time of day since the sun was just behind the mountains towards the end of our shoot and I got some REALLY awesome sunflare, which I always love. We were lucky that I just happen to be in Colorado when I was, since my sweet little nephew was born just a week later, 2 weeks early. Here's a look at a few of my favorites.

First off, I LOVE SNOW!! I've spent over half my life living in a state with 4 seasons, and until just a couple of years ago, I forgot what it was like to not have an actual "winter". We have had some CRAZY weather here in Dallas lately. We were lucky enough to enjoy a white Christmas, and enjoyed another day of snow today. Since I didn't get any pictures of my son Austin in it on Christmas and now that we have a weather proof camera, we played outside for a bit this afternoon. Isn't he just so cute?

My husband Ben, played Santa WONDERFULLY this year...

We are super excited to announce the addition of our new professional camera, the Canon 5D Mark II!!! For those of you that know your equipment, you know just how amazing this camera is! For those of you that don't really know anything about it, it's a full-frame, 21.1 mega pixels, full HD camera!! This is the camera of the photography industry.

This is one of my favorite families! They are in our ward and are just so awesome. We decided to try a little in our studio before heading to a nearby park. A family with lots of kids is always so fun to shoot; especially when they're little kids! Shandi wanted to get some pictures of their twins, who had just turned two, so we got together a few days after their family pictures and let the twin have the spot light for a while. They were seriously sooo much fun! Full of energy and personality. Loved it!

This post is very overdue. At the beginning of November, I was able to travel to Colorado to visit my family; and since I was there my sister in law asked if I would take her maternity pictures.
This last week I spent time in Denver photographing my sweet, new and tiny nephew Andyn. He is 2 wks old now and just hit the 6lbs mark. He is soooo precious! I love newborns, especially when I can hug and kiss and squeeze them like my own!

I was a little nervous about doing these pictures for my brother and sister-in-law because at home we have a full studio that I shoot my newborn sessions in 99.9% of the time and in Denver, well...nothing but natural light, since I chose not to use my OFC. Luckily, both my brother's and my parent's houses have AMAZING natural light thanks to big and perfectly positioned windows.

Ok , so I must preface this post with just a general tid bit about me and my style. I really struggle when I have clients who request sessions at the exact same location/areas as one of my previous sessions because I feel like such a "copy-cat" to myself. Nonetheless, I always strive to make my clients happy and hey, these are going to be their pictures. So I always try to work with what my clients ask for. Luckily, I had a few creative and fun ideas I had been wanting to try out up my sleeve.

This was a 2-part session. The first day, not too long after we started shooting, the weather took a turn for the worse and landed us in a terenchal downpour. We agreed to a short re-shoot for the pictures they still wanted. Luckily, the next weekend, although cloudy and cold, no rain while shooting. Congrats Rachel & Peter, and all the best in your future together!

You've asked for it and I'm giving it to ya! Since my schedule is almost full for the remaining season, I've had a few people ask if they could just purchase a pre-made card. So here you go, I've done all the hard work for you!

The cost:
$15/ card image

$10/card image if you've been a previous client of ANY kind (you do NOT have to use an image from our session together)

Here's how it works:

1. Pick your card from the 6 designs below

2. Email me with the card number and ANY digital picture file you want to use. (It must be a high res digital file. Scanned pictures will not give a good product) The picture does NOT have to be one that I have taken. It can be anything from a snap shot, to one from another photographer's session (as long as you have rights to it. I will not allow logos/watermarked images)

3. Tell me if you want:

a. The image in color/bw/sepia

b. A short personal message (under 50 characters) added to the card

c. Greeting changed (The preview may say "Happy Holidays" but you want "Merry Christmas, Seasons Greetings" etc.

d. Do you want a 4x6 or 5x7 card

e. How you'd like the card signed (love, the Thomas family; Tim & Katie Hall etc)

4. Pay me either through pay pal (you will be sent an invoice Paypal fee may apply) or come by my home and pay with cash or check.

5. I will email you the SAME DAY the card you've purchased. You will be free to print the high-res image anywhere you'd like. I know some places will print images for as low as $0.13 for 4x6, so this is a VERY inexpensive way to do cards this year.

That's it! Simple, right?

So all too often I feel like I get caught up in "photographer mode" and don't pick up my camera enough to just capture the precious moments that are rapidly disappearing from my son's baby days. He was a year in June and his little personality changes so quickly these days. I love it. I'm hard on myself; usually I toss blurry and noisy...but I love these... blur, noise and all.

I am so in love!! This is the first time I've got to touch and feel canvas, and it's amazing! This is one of my maternity pictures that my bro-in-law took; I'd never done anything with them. So I decided why not have a product clients can see and touch and know what their getting all while decorating a wall in my own home. So here it is!

This is a 1.5 in. thick 20x24 with black edging, but these are available in full gallery wrap as well and a variety of sizes and thickness.

I certainly don't do this piece of art justice. It is gorgeous and would make a dramatic statement anywhere. Consider one for your favorite picture or perhaps a storyboard from your next session.

I'm way behind in keeping up with my sessions! Remember the maternity session I did? The beautiful twiners were welcomed into the world, healthy and happy. Here's a look at the newborn session I did over a month ago for these beautiful twins. They were only a week old and were soooooo precious and tiny, just barely 6lbs each.

This past Monday evening, I had the opportunity to do another shoot with them. I called Brittney earlier that afternoon and suggested we go for it since it was overcast and about 88 degrees, which of course was a break from the triple digit heat we've been getting. We headed outdoors and had a FABULOUS session. The babies slept the entire time and we got an awesome turn out. Thanks for being so easy going Brittney!

Despite the rain, my first wedding was nothing short of success. We even had a some sun shining moments, which made for great lighting. I had a total blast and learned so much.
